You’re getting very hungry. So hungry in fact, you could eat three hamburgers! Hungry.
Hmm, maybe that was the wrong subliminal message to start with. I don’t want you getting up to go eat while I’m trying to talk to you! Isn’t that interesting? As I researched on my next social media psychology post last week, I came across some interesting reading.
What is interesting is that people can be controlled by subliminal messages. Of course, not everyone is subject to these, and testing is very un-reliable for the people that are really wanting to see in-depth answers, but the same message applies to all of us…you can fool some of the people all of the time. Now I don’t mean bring someone to your site, feed them a bunch of lies, and watch as they walk out with a bogus product.
Nope. I’m merely talking about that certain number of people that are not immune to subliminal messaging. You know, it’s kinda like those people that can’t be hypnotized…then they find out later they were standing in the middle of the road barking at cars like a dog.
This doesn’t work on everyone…but for the majority of people, subliminal messaging is important enough for major brands to use it in their advertising. That’s when I got to thinking that if this can work for a multi-billion dollar company like Coke, then it should be able to work on your blog as well.
What Are Subliminal Messages?
I don’t want to make this confusing, so, in short, a subliminal message is a message that passes under the radar of your conscious mind. Basically where the consciousness of a person would argue with or refute something, the unconscious mind accepts it as fact. If that still doesn’t make any sense, let me quote MindFitHypothesis.com:–For example, if you were listening to a Subliminal Session for weight loss and you were able to hear the affirmations “I am Slim and Trim” your conscious mind would say to itself “What a load of crap I am fat and hate my body:. The idea is that since you are unable to criticize the affirmation when you can not consciously hear it, it is accepted by the sub conscious mind without comment or rebuttal.
- A signal or message designed to pass below (sub) the normal limits of perception.
- Something inaudible to the conscious mind, but heard by the unconscious mind.
- An image transmitted briefly, not seen consciously, but seen unconsciously.
So the basic idea of subliminal’s is that you’re targeting people unconsciously. Hungry. Is it working yet? Hmm, maybe I should start telling you to buy something! But basically you can attempt these messages in any way you would like and that’s what I want to focus on today. Can we really prompt people to do what we want them to do within the confines of our blog posts?
Now I’m getting hungry.
Ok, let’s start some of this.
Subliminal Messaging in Blogging
First of all, certain things have to fall into place. In order for this to work, your reader would have to read at least part of your message, view the images and/or video’s that you have in your blog post. I wrote a post a while back that talked about writing the perfect post. In order for the reader to actually complete the whole thing, there are some things that are necessary to get them through the post on your part.
Ok, for the sake of time, let’s assume you can already write a post that your readers can get through. Now to direct them to do what you need them to with subliminal messages.
3 Parts To A Successful Blog Post
- Gaining more subscribers, to sell them something later
- Making money by selling products to people
- Getting more shares to your content to make more money
There are other features of a successful blog post. But most people are here to make money anyway, so I’ll focus on that. To me, the successful blog post is one that gets shared to all networks. That way everyone has a chance to see the content.
Tools To Use
Whichever one you’re trying to do, the main premise in using these types of messages is to make it subtle. Just so you know, if you are obvious about it, then the message becomes a “supra” liminal one which I haven’t researched yet, but will, and have to say that it’s more aggressive to the reader. Remember a “sub” liminal message goes under the radar of consciousness, and a “supra” liminal one goes above the level of unconsciousness.
For right now, we’ll keep it under the radar, for all of those people that are wanting to go eat right now.
Lol, getting hungry yet?
Let’s say you have an affiliate product that you would like to sell, or a product of your own *Ahem, so you need some kind of image that will promote the product naturally, and under the radar of consciousness. What the people over at “Coke” did was to actually use the product in the image itself along with something that was pleasing to the eyes. In other words, they used a beach scene, a pretty girl/guy, they also used the polar bear which insinuated how cold the drink was.
These ideas bring forth desire in the consumer’s mind. They see the polar bear drinking the Coke and they realize that they’re suddenly hot, and need that cold drink themselves. Psychologists say that there is also a cognitive remembrance of the product later when the person is hot in the future.
Here’s the best example I could find of subliminal messages in affiliate links:
You may have to use some image editor to make the images seem more pleasant to people. Now the marketing is different if you’re trying to sell affiliate links like this one. That said, then the images will be different as well. There is no need to include a beach scene, or a polar bear. Usually your target audience, depending on the audience (in my niche anyway) will be other marketers trying to make money, so images congruent with that idea re needed.
Videos’ are great marketing tools to get people to do things. Heck, just look at television. It’s loaded with subliminal commercials to get people to get off the couch and buy their product. Use video’s right, and you’ll have them doing what you want.
Here’s an example of a subliminal message for video
The Final Thought
Subliminal messaging will be researched more by me to see just how this really works in blogging. I thought I would lay out the specifics for you in this post just to get you started, but watch for more of the “how to’s” with using this strategy.
Are you hungry yet? I sure am..I think I want a hamburger.
Tell me what you think in the comments.
